Media Literacy workshop for homeschool kids
The ARTE 310 class led our third workshop of the semester for homeschool kids on Tuesday, April 29 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
We approached this theme in two different ways, depending on the age of the students. The ARTE 310 students planned different activities for elementary and secondary level.
-----With elementary students, the focus was on illustrating literary devices in fun and entertaining ways, such as onomatopoeias and idioms. This should reinforce concepts studied in language arts and relate to children's books and graphic novels / comics.
-----With secondary students, the focus was on deciphering messages communicated through photographs. After discussion of elements of realistic style photographs, students went on a digital scavenger hunt to capture their understanding of given words.
This workshop was free and open to 20 students total, grades 3-12. It took place on our last day of class. We could not think of a better way to end our semester than with our homeschool friends!
